This has been my travel music as of late. Relaxing in the airport-hall. By a lovely duo-bass, brass band. Well if that is not already special enough, I don't know what is.

Time for another top 20. Listened to a lot during the month and an artist I can keep recommending is on the number one spot. Barbarossa. And that while he's changed his sound a lot. More floating out there somewhere, different vocal style, more melancholy perhaps, more electronics for sure. Still love it.
All I can say is, the rest of the list is very interesting as well. So check it out.

The first part of the Best Kept Secret line-up has been confirmed and it's impressive, again. If you ask me, in the Netherlands, this is where you have to be this summer when it comes to good alternative music. It's completely clear in February.
And my favorite twenty tracks from December, with a Indie neo-classic by Panda Bear on the first spot. A track that will be remembered for years to come. And I Have become a big fan of Dutch outfit PAUW. Great band.

Working on 2014's review lists. Will be posting the first part tomorrow. And still the best from November and December are on its way.
But first let's talk about the most fascinating and diverse LP out right now is Clark's self titled album. And this is one of it's top tracks.
A dazzling ride through a landscape of electronics.
Clark - Winter Linn
Album: Clark (2014)
Label: Warp Records
So I've starting working on my yearlists, since well the year is almost over now and not at the beginning of Decembe, but I already mentioned that last year I guess. I'm doing a top 50 albums and a top 100 songs, if I can find the time.
Oh yeah and before I forget, I don't get where the Americans are going with this Taylor Swift hype, but I do like the way some Dubstep artists have used her vocals in some serious remixing. So check that out.
Now everybody is done talking about Aphex Twin (not that I have any problems with that, but there is more you know), I feel like posting this. As a new video of the week. One of the most interesting acts that has emerged for me this year. And this video is controversial to say the least. Well I think everybody should make their own statement about it. But the song is epic.
Enjoy!
Yet again, I feel obliged to come with my own christmas playlist. 2014 edition. With a Mark Kozelek cover in there. I promise he is not swearing in it.
Just a bunch of songs that remind me of, sound like or are just about Christmas.
enjoy!
The year is almost over. And that means reflection on the year, awards, lists and celebration.
But now it seems that the end of the year lists are missing one of the key LPs of 2014. (it happens every year to be honest). They are missing D'Angelo's Black Messiah.
It's available for streaming Spotify
.
And besides the implications for American society, it's just really great. again.
Somebody else decided that a great way to celebrate the greatness of the Whigs is to change all their music on their website with music videos from The Killers. Downgrading them instead of celebrating them obviously. So let's do it properly, here.
From The Whigs to another type of whig. Let's state that not only Slowdive had a succesful reunion in 2014. It was a great year for the Afghan Whigs as well.
The band Leeways from my new home-town Arnhem has won the De Grote Prijs van Nederland talent contest in the band division.
Congrats to them and here's a track by them.
And that wraps it up for today. Enjoy!

This is my first experience with this band and I like it. Apparently they have taken a turn form their previous (which I can definitely recommend aswell) and have become more pop-orientated. I would normally not be a fan of this, but in this case I don't mind it. And here's why. This track is such an original mix of some well-known pop-elements, a sweet guitar riff, synth tunes and some underestimated lyrics that it surpasses the level of an 'ordinary' pop song. And the video is not bad either. Actually it's pretty sweet. Sometimes, putting some scenery shots together completely does the trick. A beautifully depicted love story in 4:16.
But I am still curious what's your opinion?
Enjoy!
Album cover of Snowmine's previous work.
You could assume that London Calling is all about british bands, well that's not the case. not anymore at least. Still DMA's were by far the most britpop-like band scheduled in Paradiso. Think The Verve or Oasis. Clearly blowing the audience of their feet with their somewhat surprising stage presence. They were playing like they are used to audiences of this size. They should get used to it quickly, cause they will be drawing some attention soon. Even the ballads were great and I'm not even a ballad kind-of-guy. Potential hit after potential hit. Great band. Keep an eye out for them.
But first check out this video. And....... you're hooked.
Enjoy!
A quick pick before I am off to London Calling. A track by a band featured on that festival which I am definitely looking forward to. See you on sunday!

A While ago I posted Pin Tweaks' material. and this sort of reminds me of that. Lots of echo, synth and strong lyrics. I'm talking about the new Dorsal Fins track 'Monday Tuesday'. Synthpop seems to be having its second youth. No complaints here. Especially when the songs have enough catchyness to last for weeks.
Definetely an act to watch out for.
Tonight I'm finally checking out SOHN at newly opened Doornroosje. Should you believe the hype or not?
