A music blog trying to make great music (both new & old) known to a larger audience, by posting daily tracks and news. All this from the perspective of a Dutch biology student. Enjoy.
Discovered this band today and I must say, this is amazing. It's a lightfooted, rock 'n roll track that is definitely growing on me. Love the backline-bass and the dream-poppy vocals. It's a rock 'n roll theme in disguise.
Best song from the album. period. It's a good second by the way, but it does not meet up to its expectations. (Especially, since the first one is legendary in my eyes/ears).
Their grungy offbeat sound, i recognized it immediately. and they seem to have picked up a little bit of Parquet Courts flavor or is that my imagination? Anyway it's good to know The Thermals are back: one of my favourite indie bands from a while ago. (or when I was young...)
Wolf Alice was on Dutch national television a few days ago and gave a good show in Amsterdam as well. Still my relationship with the band is a peculiar one. Some tracks I really like, but when I saw them live a long while ago, they didn't impress me. The performance never stayed at a strong level, one track did it for me, the next one not so much. Perhaps it is just a band that is still discovering their own talent and sound, or we (me) are not yet accustomed to their variety. The evolution of a listener.
Lately images of shows have made me reconsider.
Despite my doubts, this might turn out to be a modern classic.
For now, I like their gritty sound the most.
Perhaps a band can be too versatile?
At least for a second record, they can go in a lot of directions. It is something to look out for.
It took a while, but everything remotely similar to Joy Division is to my liking. This is no exception. It is not remote from Joy Division either. Still, this band took a complete turn from their previous material, so be sure to check that out as well. This band is complete! Great track from a great record anyhows.
This has been going on repeat for quite some time now. The roughness of this band may have subsided, their second record competes with their debut one easily. This track is evidence of that and shows why they are a band with a unique identity. Tension and an explosive chorus, backed up by impressive vocals. Love the easy tunes at the end!
I was blown away when I first heard Katarsis by She Past Away. I mean, there is no denying my love for the 80ies, but still.... this is an act possessing rare amounts of quality. Their synth-based sound is full of intensity and easily brings you back in time. This Turkish (Yes, not common in Alternative Rock) Duo has been building their reputation for a few years now, but the 2015 record Narin Yalnizik (if that is the correct spelling...) might lead to more people knowing them.
I, for one, will try to do so. Since this is most definitely an artist to watch
For now drown yourself in goth melancholia and enjoy.
On the day of the eurovision event, which is a disgrace for music and culture in general, and a twitter Discussion concerning MIA's new African video, which is not going to get any broadcasting time, because... it's African, at least so she claims. And of course Miss Azaelia Banks is responding.
And then came this:
If the music industry allows an African artist to come through this year on intnl level, I would gladly give him this video for free.
A dark Pearl Jammy sound and no fear to write intriguing songs. A Dutch band with serious potential. And I know I say that a lot, anyway, support these guys!
of Montreal is a band that needs no introduction. And yet their latest release has me more excited than usual.
I've mentioned here before that listening to a record, mostly this counts for special records, the first few spins don't always necessarily give you a great feeling. On of Montreal's Aureate Gloom that will be released soon, you can hear, i would almost call it the usual honk-a-donk indie sound they are familiar with. But it is when they start to move away from that sound they are an awesome band. Estocadas, Aluminium Crown and especially Like Ashoka's Inferno of Memory, rank, to my sincere opinion, amongst their best material. The stunning switches between the energetic and calm parts and somehow still delivering interesting tracks, that I would not dare to call catchy. And that's just the kind of band of Montreal is and they prove with this record maybe more than ever, that if being original is one of your key features from the start, you can keep going without being boring ever. As i Said I believe the final track from the record, that is in fact not at all gloomy, is just fantastic.
The record is definitely in my 'need to hear' category, it is lively, it is interesting and it is still growing on me. Giving stars to an album this deep, might be too early and not correct, so I'll add a little star to it.
One of my first major thumbs up of 2015. Froth, a band with a particular exotic ring to it. Can't really place it yet. But as in so many cases, the garage tones that echo through this track are what gets me excited.
A quick pick before I am off to London Calling. A track by a band featured on that festival which I am definitely looking forward to. See you on sunday!
First off, Sleater-Kinney is back, with a LP on the way. So in honor of these Indie-greats, an older track by them in the Favorites playlist on the Youtube Channel. Furthermore, autumn makes me think back of summer, festivals and the day I saw Eaux play live. Another addition to the playlist. Before I forget, Pond is also producing new material.
By the way: Record B is on its way.
But all of them are not today's pick. Today's pick is GRMLN's Jaded track from LP Soon Away. Not their first record, but still my first experience with them. I like the record, filled with fuzzy Indie-Rock with enough guitar and vocal hooks straight out of San Fransisco. This track is a great example. Enjoy!
