A music blog trying to make great music (both new & old) known to a larger audience, by posting daily tracks and news. All this from the perspective of a Dutch biology student. Enjoy.
Due to lack of new discoveries, time and inspiration I wasn't very active as of late.
This has got my juices flowing though. Saw a show from this guy on London Calling, Amsterdam almostt 2 years ago. This confirms what I've been suspecting. D.D Dumbo is a guy to keep your eye on.
Discovered this band today and I must say, this is amazing. It's a lightfooted, rock 'n roll track that is definitely growing on me. Love the backline-bass and the dream-poppy vocals. It's a rock 'n roll theme in disguise.
It was a while when I posted a dreamy track. So here is one. Discovered this today, scanning through Youtube channels. This is from Hardly Art Records.
I particularly love the acoustic guitar, which has disappeared from dreampop recently. And the vocals are just right, nothing forced, just a natural vibe of dreaminess.
Wild Nothing is an artist I sometimes can't stop raving about. I feel lucky I was able to witness Jack Tatum and his guys deliver magic live. This new record coming out February 2016 seems to be another milestone for the band. Having further developed their sound and the next video is proof of that. Both tracks are great and can probably withstand the test time with some of their material. Love the renewed guitar-sound that is dominating the background of the tracks.
This video is one of the first, not just moving artwork, live album covers. And slow-motion settings between man and woman, just fit the music of Wild Nothing perfectly. Dream away people, dream away.
Suddenly, when I looked over an old Connan record, I thought: "What is this guy up to now?"
And so I typed his name into the youtube search bar and voilá. Connan Mockasin has released an Ep in collab. with Dev Hynes. And it's good old Connan all over again.
With many great releases on the rise this year, Julia Holter's release might not be one of the main things in everyone's agenda. But keeping in mind that her last release was still largely and in most places underrated, I would like to argue that this is definitely one of the records to watch out for this year. She is an artist in the true sense of the word, in her best days. And the track: Sea Calls Me Home is not one step away from that trend. She does not sound as the same Julia Holter. She has worked on her sound, perfected it perhaps, made it more smooth for sure. The feeling her music can give you, for example in the whistling part around 1:30, followed by the sax, is truly unique and is her true selling point.
So what has changed, her offbeat tempos, her echoing has made room for a more folky approach, a brighter song, with a simpler beat. More of a Beirut-song actually. Also she's bringing the vocals with more urge. Unchanged is the creative instrument-use (saxophone here), here meaningful lyrics and her unprecedented feeling of freedom that comes with her tracks.
I feel a Julia Holter hype coming. And rightfully so.
This has been doing particularly well on my channel, without any promotion yet. The soulful dreamy tracks on this record come in plenty and this is a highlight. Combine that sound with a raw voice, of someone who is not sure about the topic of conversation either, the track becomes an intriguing 5minutes. As so often in modern-day Indie music, melancholy to growing up, or just life in general plays an important part. Yet, so beautifully done and put into a guitar track, because that is what it comes down to, is very rare. YAST is a band I had never heard about before yesterday, but one I will not soon forget. Apparently they played Grasnapolsky festival near me, not long ago. Would've loved to be a witness to that.

Came across this today. Poppy, with some nice guitar-work going on. A summer tune for sure, catchy as hell and interesting enough to keep listening to it for a while. Love it.
It's been a long time since I've blogged this actively, but the love for it will always resurface. And the biggest reason for that is the music itself. There are a lot of interesting things going on right now, there is a lot of music worth mentioning.
As is the case with The Soft Moon. The Soft Moon has always an intriguing outfit, discovering their neo-post-punk sound with ease, and taking us along for the ride.
Still, you can arguably state that The Soft Moon has yet again taken the next step in their music and a video to go along with it. With "Wasting" they show a sense of urgency, whilst believing patience in tracks is good. It gives the track an unprecedented atmosphere, even for a band that is already known for being able to create just that. And the vocals are totally creepy this time around.
The video (directed by Y2K) is a peculiar one. The main character (singer) gets injected with some kind of serum and then it starts. The track speeds up, strange images and colors flash the screen. artful images become clear on his face. The old man must be evil. It's a fascinating piece of work really. Could be the soundtrack to some terrifying sci-fi flick.
And it's my video of the week!
By the way added their self-titled 2010 album to the Full-LPs playlist on the youtube channel.
A While ago I posted Pin Tweaks' material. and this sort of reminds me of that. Lots of echo, synth and strong lyrics. I'm talking about the new Dorsal Fins track 'Monday Tuesday'. Synthpop seems to be having its second youth. No complaints here. Especially when the songs have enough catchyness to last for weeks.
Definetely an act to watch out for.
Tonight I'm finally checking out SOHN at newly opened Doornroosje. Should you believe the hype or not?
How about another summer anthem? The star of this Indie-Pop band is rising and if this is a taste of what the album is going to be like, i reckon it is rising fast.
A new dutch act I have grown quite fond of lately. After opening the shows for Moss a while ago, Beginners has announced their debut LP will come out this September. And I believe it's going to be something special. Singer Susanne Linssen has gained experience in Hospital Bombers amongs other acts and seems to be more than ready for her own project.
At the very least this is another great song by them.
With only 36 minutes, this is one addictive tour around the world of Howls. I dare to say that this one will take the band to next level of attention. The attention they deserve.
Watching the new Spiderman movie yesterday, this album was promoted throughout the movie (Album cover was hanging in the room of Peter Parker). So I felt like listening to Oshin again. And as with all good LPs, it still fascinates.
Some bands are just obligatory to listen to, when considering yourself a music lover. For me this is one of them and apparently some people missed these guys (Danger Mouse & James Mercer) releasing a new album. One of the best records of the year 2014? perhaps.
As a fan of their previous work, which had a slightly bigger edge and roughness to it, I still very much like this LP. And this is a golden track of that wonderful record.
Moss. Again. Great. Best Dutch album of the year perhaps? (By the way there is a new and awesome Afghan Whigs track, be sure to check that one out aswell)
