A music blog trying to make great music (both new & old) known to a larger audience, by posting daily tracks and news. All this from the perspective of a Dutch biology student. Enjoy.
Absolutely beautiful piece of modular synthesizer work. Bissonette is a new name for me, and i found out there is much more. While this is from his end-of-2015 release, his previous records have been received very positively as well. This should be a soundtrack for a movie, truly fascinating electronic track. Dream away people, dream away.
Stumbled on music from these guys lately and since their names are so 'related' their stories are completely different. A small-time electronics producer against a acid-lounge phenomenon (LP Tourist (2000)being a really special record. I predict that both are going to make some noise in 2016.
The new Germany Germany record Willow is full of some great easy going tracks and could be a surprise hit from out of nowhere. (The music is from Canada by the way.)
Today I listened to a complete version of Vega Intl. Night School, Neon Indian's 2015 release and it's fascinating. Chill-wave king Neon Indian seems to have outdone himself, with a record that will echo through mainstream genres for the next year, with potential remixes, club anthems and catchyness for many kinds of music-listeners.
It has the warm, exotic, yet surprising nightlife vibe that comes natural to the Indian. The style we have come to love since Deadbeat Summer, yet more energetic this time.
Let's wait and see how it will stand the test of time. But for now I'm totally loving this record.
Tyondai Braxton (previously Battles, great band!) is an artist I have followed a lot recently. Not known for his straightforward productions, hence Battles, this newest material is no surprise. Still it is a very interesting addition to his career. Building up the track from scratch and from new and original elements (the beach-drumbeat for example), this is what electronics is all about.
It's been a long time since I've blogged this actively, but the love for it will always resurface. And the biggest reason for that is the music itself. There are a lot of interesting things going on right now, there is a lot of music worth mentioning.
As is the case with The Soft Moon. The Soft Moon has always an intriguing outfit, discovering their neo-post-punk sound with ease, and taking us along for the ride.
Still, you can arguably state that The Soft Moon has yet again taken the next step in their music and a video to go along with it. With "Wasting" they show a sense of urgency, whilst believing patience in tracks is good. It gives the track an unprecedented atmosphere, even for a band that is already known for being able to create just that. And the vocals are totally creepy this time around.
The video (directed by Y2K) is a peculiar one. The main character (singer) gets injected with some kind of serum and then it starts. The track speeds up, strange images and colors flash the screen. artful images become clear on his face. The old man must be evil. It's a fascinating piece of work really. Could be the soundtrack to some terrifying sci-fi flick.
And it's my video of the week!
By the way added their self-titled 2010 album to the Full-LPs playlist on the youtube channel.
So I've starting working on my yearlists, since well the year is almost over now and not at the beginning of Decembe, but I already mentioned that last year I guess. I'm doing a top 50 albums and a top 100 songs, if I can find the time.
Oh yeah and before I forget, I don't get where the Americans are going with this Taylor Swift hype, but I do like the way some Dubstep artists have used her vocals in some serious remixing. So check that out.
Now everybody is done talking about Aphex Twin (not that I have any problems with that, but there is more you know), I feel like posting this. As a new video of the week. One of the most interesting acts that has emerged for me this year. And this video is controversial to say the least. Well I think everybody should make their own statement about it. But the song is epic.
Think Animal Collective, but with the typical Belgium Lo-Fi-ish Folk in between the crazy parts. Hints of School is Cool are in there as well. That's for me what BRNS is. It is an exotic sound, I can honestly say I believe these guys are pioneers in what they do. They are filling their own corner of the music world. The whole album is an adventure, really. One of the best of the year perhaps? (I say that a lot I know, but I'll get to that in January.)
Time for some artistic electro. This artist is specialized in setting that spooky setting with electronics. Unbelievable vibes. Some people might say: is this even music? Well I would love this to be the soundtrack to almost everymovie I could think of. So yes. This is music. This is electronic music. The vocals are exactly right aswell, nothing is 'too' present. Is this the new James Holden? it could well be the case.
After a few nice and intersting remixes by Lxury, now it's time for some "self-made material". And this EP released on GrecoRoman records has some interesting vibes to it. Lxury might be one of those great acts finishing off a festival day for the next few years.
Lxury - Permanent Power
Album: Playground EP
Label: GrecoRoman Music
More new stuff: Angel Olsen material from the deluxe box is appearing on the www, good stuff yet again.
September playlist is coming together nicely, check it on the youtube channel.
One of the hottest things right now. Coming of an album, released 2nd of June, I have been listening to like crazy this last week, and this is my favourite track, for sure. This one I have not seen highlighted yet, so I felt the urge. The originality of this is.... refreshing, truly. Considering their musical background is in Folk, makes this even more interesting to listen to.
People who regularly check ouy my blog know that Washed Out is an artist that returns to Earsareforfeeling every once in a while. Today I'm using him to breathe new life in my Video of the Week item.
As a single to August LP Paracosm, a stunning video was made to Weightless. As one of the more slowly, more ecstatic Washed Out tracks, the video breathes out the same vibe perfectly. Reading the Youtube reactions some of the first fans feel the same way. The video unbelievably accurately follows the way I feel when watching this, somewhat long, track+video. Then again, in that timespan, you get a full explanation of what love is about and what Washed Out's music is about.
10. Moderat - II, August 6th, Monkeytown Records, Electronica/Alternative Techno/Alternative Dance
As a first-day fan of Apparat's music, listening to Moderat was more than obvious. The collaboration between Modeselektor and Apparat showed of their capability to produce great tracks for many different music-lovers with their absolute bomb hit single "Bad Kingdom". Which is probably among people I know personally, the most mentioned alternative track all year. The broader aspect of their album seems somewhat more under-appreciated, but amongst my personal favourites of the year are Ilona and Let in the Light. Overall, every songs is able to feel relaxed while in the meantime holding the listener in a certain tension, which is unmatched. Then, finally, if you consider all the different styles used on this LP, you can only say this is the best electronic album of the year.
Newcastle producer Slime releases impressive mixtape and this is a key track. Nice mixture of low-key british electro with some nicely flavoured Hiphop, right?
As a fan of their previous work, which had a slightly bigger edge and roughness to it, I still very much like this LP. And this is a golden track of that wonderful record.
