Suddenly Death Grips is back, masters of the unexpected turns in their music, now this counts just as much for their career. The band quit and now they're back. With an instrumental album called ' Fashion Week'.

for today's pick, perhaps a bit of a random one. But i've been listening to their LP for the last week and it's sticking. I have no idea what the years in the track titles are referring to, perhaps famous sporting events? something with the olympics?
Anyway, I like the band's somewhat traditional style of punk music and I felt like sharing. Today's Pick:
SPORT - Montreal, 1976

7. Death Grips - Government Plates, Warp Records, November 13th, Experimental Hiphop/Noise Rap/Noise
Death Grips canceled their tour to make this one and thank god they did. Totally outrageous from the go-go, this LP will leave your mind blown. But that is just wat DG wants. Being even more experimental, totally out fo control. But if you have listened to any of their previous material (if not, I suggest you do that right now), this is one the craziest rides you could've had in 2013. And okay, this is not even Hiphop anymore, this is something entirely new.
Enjoy!

Album: The Money Store (2012)
I'm not a frequent Hiphop-listener, but I do occassionaly reach out to it. I did so again, a while ago with Death Grips. They've already been named on of the top names to look out for in 2012. But in my area I have heard not one person recommend this band, even though this album is around for two months now.
Death Grips is an experimental Hiphop collective from California,(Don't expect any West-Coast Hiphop though.) and they are not for the faint of heart. As I can imagine people to be scared off by this album. Don't let it happen, give it time. (I know I did.)If I had to write this two months ago, I wouldn't have been so positive.
The whole album is very solid, no track on it that doesn't live up to the band's upcoming name. Heavy and original basslines together with insane lyrics that will certainly stick, and live drums. Songs like hacker, I've seen footage, The Fever will stay in the band's live repertoire for years to come. Listening to this album for a while now, the beats still surprise me now and then, they,re unexpected, fresh and bold. Although I'm not a huge fan of Stefan Burnett's (forming Death Grips together with Andy Morin and Zach Hill) voice it suits most of the songs pretty good. This is the kind of album, you like to see on an new group. It's good, but you constantly have the idea, it can still get a lot better and that we have only seen the tip of the iceberg.
No performances are scheduled in this part of the world, because, after two months of performing they have decided to already make a new album. Sweet!
